This weekend saw the finishing touches to the army of Naervaron, the first contingent for the "Electoral Army".
This involved drawing and painting the flags, varnishing figures, cutting out, sanding and painting balsa bases and printing labels to identity the stands.
First, the flags before cutting out and black edging.
Finally, the whole army glued to stands and flagged.
Excellent! The Naervaron’s field a dandy army.
ReplyDeleteThe Archduke sends his compliments, sir!

Lots of old school goodness there Neil.
ReplyDeleteBack when I started you could still (just) get the plastic Spencer Smiths from Peter Johnstone, although the moulds were showing their age. So they were not quite "Old School" . In fact I don't think the term had been coined (nor "Imagi-Nations" for that matter) .
ReplyDeleteI picked them for three main reasons, partly nostalgia (had just found a copy of Grant's The Wargame), mostly because they were cheap (then at least) and the main reason was that they were ideal for painting in imaginary uniforms as they were quite vague in the details department! If I'd used Hinchliffe or Front Rank or Foundry it would have meant painting a Prussian differently which didn't appeal.
If I could get on with 5mm I should perhaps have gone down your route! At least I would perhaps have painted them quicker!

Hand drawn flags? Nice job. 😀
ReplyDeleteThanks. Pencil then fine liner pen, paint and retouch fine liner. Edges with large marker. PVA on partly folded flag, join end edges together and leave opening at closed end, wrap around pole and flatten. Fold into waving pattern.
