Perhaps not as simulating as a discussion on storage options😎

Nevertheless, an update on what progress I've made since last post.
Remember those Gallic cavalry?
Well after touch ups, repairs and basing they look like this:
Some individual shots.
The "buying other people's painted figures that look like mine, but might need work" project continues with the addition of some Germans, looking very similar to mine, although on 3-to-a-base loose order. The bases need a bit of TLC....
A bit of a "PB&J" post (as Stew would say), but aside from uninteresting views of cleaned up Roman command figures and some remnant Gauls and Romans awaiting priming and painting respectively, not a lot else has happened chez moi.
A lot more terrain has been purchased as well as fortifications for those Romans and houses for the Celts, oh and some storage boxes......😎 mainly as due to all these additions I needed to expand. These are of the small craft or DIY bits boxes, with 40mm or wider compartments and some deeper toolbox types for those pesky pikes, lances and elephants.
The Gauls look great, and the most recent ones will fit very well once you've improved bases. It's a great way to recruit more forces without too much painting time being required.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the 'plug' for my post about storage boxes!
Thanks David. Increasing the Romans is next.
ReplyDeleteWelcome for the "plug".

Neil, competing against a lively discussion on storage options and opinions is tough to “top”. It may be difficult to “contain” our enthusiasm for the topic but we must eventually put a “lid” on it. I had to make a run to store yesterday to pick up a couple of new boxes. My recent painting results required two collections to expand into new boxes. Now that is progress!
ReplyDeleteIndeed Jonathan. I feel like Ive been boxed into a corner by David's post and I can't really top it; my post feels shallow and empty by comparison. I can't really contain myself or put those feelings away in a locker or cupboard and feel I need the space to parcel up those feelings and store them away properly all neatly stacked and ordered.....☺
ReplyDeletePerhaps we should measure progress by storage - "after my recent painting, I have a three crate army" or "I've finished a Really Useful Box worth today..."
Neil
Putting chaos in its place—one box at a time.
DeleteI tend to measure army sizes in terms of how many box files they occupy, rather than numbers of figures/vehicles.
DeleteMartin, very logical. Sadly my eclectic storage situation is not as well organised.
DeleteThe Soldier King armies have their own ex-HMSO box files and have been expanding to fit what's available.
The ancients are in a variety of plastic craft / DIY boxes, the flats in Really Useful Boxes and the rest in standard and shallow box files. I have lots of box files to expand painted stuff into, although many hold unpainted, or part-painted stuff.
Neil
They look flipping brilliant Neil. You have a lot of patience painting so many non-uniformed figures. And those shields....
ReplyDeleteSadly Chris, not my work. I've just finished them off!
DeleteThe original post of Gauls were mine.
One trick for irregulars is to paint all the same pose in one or two combinations and then mix the poses. Not so easy with 6mm!
Neil
Nice work, it can take some time to have repairs and repaints get the attention needed. I like to include rebasing when possible. And as for additional storage boxes, a continual trade off with crowdingthe boxes into the shelves. The shelves are the actual limit to the size of armies.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe. Sadly I think my stuff has long since outgrown the shelves available!
