Finis!

At last, I have finished painting the two battalions of Regiment du Berry.

What I thought would be a quick job has turned into a marathon! I spent lots of time getting the gris-blanc to a colour that wasn't to far from the existing French. The hard bit was trying to paint in a style that would not look completely different while getting something I was happy with.

Need varnish and flags and basing, but they are done for now.

The existing regiments are awaiting their flags refreshing as the varnish has yellowed considerably, Bearn was especially effected.

  1. I thought the title read, "Finns!" Imagine my surprise when I read the post. Good to see your refurbed French almost finished.

  2. It should come as no surprise that I do have Finns - from the Winter War; however, they are not in the pipeline for the near future.
Too many projects, not enough time!

  3. They've turned out very nicely. I like the detailing.
Incidentally, I had plans for the Winter War, but shelved them. I couldn't face creating a whole new lot of 'terrain' for it, and I couldn't find a way of mass producing deciduous trees in their winter garb in 10mm scale! The Continuation War mind, is another thing....

    1. Chris,
Thanks. It was a bit odd not making use of a black undercoat for buttons and the like.
As to the Winter War; some time ago I got hold of a white hexed cloth from Holz via someone in UK. Never gave much thought to winterised trees - they do seem to exist for railway modellers. I would aim for what this chap achieves:

Or Google "Fangs of the Wolf campaign" as pictures seem to have disappeared from threads.

    1. Thanks Willz. No doubt they will run away in their first game!

  5. If you say something "is finished except for flags, basing, and varnish' then it's not really finished.... LOL

I kid and I tease. nice progress. 😁

  6. Stew,
After staring at those figures for the best part of a week, struggling with I don't know how many shades of grey (you will note I didn't repeat THAT title....☺) when I eventually got that green on the base I was calling them finished!☺
Yes, in a pedantic sense they are not finished, but then is a wargames unit ever truly finished? After all I'm repainting the flags on the existing units.....
