Work on the army of the Grand Duchy of Waldow for the Soldier King project has progressed. The figures have been painted and varnished and are awaiting flags, bases and labels; they may also get another "Grotesque" character figure as I found one lurking and after considering the enlarged army, thought they needed another senior commander.
By way of teaser, some pictures.
The army in the box.
Cavalry
Infantry
Artillery
The Grand Duke and Von Stauffen
Hopefully more to follow when complete.
A fine looking Army. The Grand Duke must be very proud.
ReplyDeleteThanks MJT,

An impressive and very colorful box of figures, Neil! Great job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jonathan.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to getting them flagged and based.
Neil
A splendid looking group of figures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter.
DeleteIt was a bit of a slog, but I got there.
Neil
well worth the slog.
DeleteBeautiful uniforms!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dean.
DeleteThe irony was I determined it would be faster if I used suitable paints straight from the pot; when it came to it I ended up mixing both the blues and yellow. I was sure I'd bought some paint specifically - sure enough after the last unit I found the paint I'd bought to save time!
Neil
A very pretty army. Armies should be pretty and brightly coloured - for the on-table spectacle. Magnificent!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Ion
Thanks Ion.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that while I love the colour combination, I was sick of using acrylic yellow! For some reason it always ends up having the consistency of stringy glue and almost always needs two coats on black!
Neil
Both yellow and red seem to be problematic colours for coverage. I often end up doing an undercoat of mid brown, and they go OK over that.
DeleteI'll try that next time I'm painting - Red & Yellow both give me grief with a black undercoat.
DeleteI have to say it was the consistency that was more of a problem. The mix was a Colour Party lemon and Vallejo yellow. I'm coming to the realisation I don't like Vallejo paints!
DeleteNeil
A lovely looking army Neil, the uniform is lovely and really "pops", I particularly like the artillery, the guns and gunners are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donnie. By the time I got to Waldow I was wondering what combination to paint the guns and gunners.
DeleteNeil
A fantastic selection of beautifully painted spencer Smiths.
ReplyDeletecheered me up and inspired me Neil.
Willz.
Thanks Willz. Hopefully a proper parade will inspire you more!
ReplyDeleteNeil
