Progress sitrep - teaser for a parade

Work on the army of the Grand Duchy of Waldow for the Soldier King project has progressed. The figures have been painted and varnished and are awaiting flags, bases and labels; they may also get another "Grotesque" character figure as I found one lurking and after considering the enlarged army, thought they needed another senior commander.

By way of  teaser, some pictures.

The army in the box.

Cavalry

Infantry

Artillery

The Grand Duke and Von Stauffen

Hopefully more to follow when complete.

    1. Thanks Dean.
The irony was I determined it would be faster if I used suitable paints straight from the pot; when it came to it I ended up mixing both the blues and yellow. I was sure I'd bought some paint specifically - sure enough after the last unit I found the paint I'd bought to save time!

  7. A very pretty army. Armies should be pretty and brightly coloured - for the on-table spectacle. Magnificent!

  8. Thanks Ion.
I have to say that while I love the colour combination, I was sick of using acrylic yellow! For some reason it always ends up having the consistency of stringy glue and almost always needs two coats on black!

    1. Both yellow and red seem to be problematic colours for coverage. I often end up doing an undercoat of mid brown, and they go OK over that.

    2. I'll try that next time I'm painting - Red & Yellow both give me grief with a black undercoat.

    3. I have to say it was the consistency that was more of a problem. The mix was a Colour Party lemon and Vallejo yellow. I'm coming to the realisation I don't like Vallejo paints!

    1. Thanks Donnie. By the time I got to Waldow I was wondering what combination to paint the guns and gunners.

"Wo ist Waldow?"* A parade

*Not the German equivalent of "where's Wally" but something I rather imagine the denizens of the Soldier King world to say - ...
