Progress report

A quick post showing the first of the Estavian Imperial army with their varnish drying.

The first is an overview of three weeks work; second multi -coloured facings of the line infantry and combined grenadiers; lastly the first Guard cavalry and line cuirassiers with another combined grenadier regiment.

As much again still to paint with artillery, staff and light troops in addition.

  1. There is something very special about Spencer Smith figures - especially when beautifully painted as are yours. Lovely stuff.

  2. Thank you. It's taken a few years to develop the best technique; they are "demi-ronde" or semi-flat with very little incised detail. I've found they need depth suggesting by black lining (I use black undercoat) or they just look flat. Neatness and simple bright colours work. I aim for a "toy soldier" look finished with gloss varnish .
I have seen others achieve some very nice results (Henry Hyde and Willz Hartley) but I lack the patience to paint them really well. I don't know if flat figure techniques would work, but in any case I lack thevskills!
