Another of the kingdoms from the boardgame, Arcadia. The heraldry from the game is a black lion rampant on gold/yellow. Very early sketches determined how this army would look, influenced by Neil Cogswell's Wurtemburg army clothed in yellow (as per 1752 uniforms), Prussia and the Dutch.

I must confess a certain favouritism or bias here; in a long forgotten playthrough of the game, I had Arcadia. I designed them with massed guard heavy cavalry and veteran infantry and recall a "battle" in which the guard cavalry made a charge across a river and with outrageous good dice luck smashed the opposing army (identity long forgotten).
The uniform designs came easy from very early on; who could resist painting a whole army in yellow? What could be more Imagi-Nation?
Added to which I managed to replicate in Fimo a personality figure modelled on a picture in "The Wargame" of what was labelled as "Graf von Grunt" but which we now know to have been no less than General Trinksblut und Eisenessen.......my "Grotesque" is the Graf von Grunstadt.....no less fond of a tipple than von Grunt.
Should I ever get a campaign going, I shall have to allow the dice to fall where they may, but will always have something of a soft spot for the Arcadians.....
Another inspiring parade, Neil!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan. I've photgraphed the Estavian Imperial army which will be next when I get a chance to update the blog.
ReplyDeleteThat leaves just the Electoral states to be snapped as the remainder are yet to be painted. That said I don't think I have shown the pictures I had of Hrvatska. I could do with photographing some units again to better match the other armies.
Neil
Another splendid looking army and commanders.
ReplyDeleteThank you Peter.
ReplyDeleteNeil
Great parade, good way to showcase your units.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe. I'm trying to catalogue the armies using the work i-Phone as it takes much nicer photos.
DeleteI'd better paint some more before I run out of subjects!
Neil
Cracking stuff Neil…
ReplyDeleteWhat’s not to like about yellow uniforms 😁
All the best. Aly
Thanks Aly. It took a bit of searching to get the right acrylic yellow as they can be a bit "radioactive". It's the old GW "Spearstaff brown" with a bit of "Sunburst yellow".
DeleteTook a couple of coats over black undercoat!
Neil
Missed these somehow, an excellent display of fine Spencer Smiths.
ReplyDeleteWillz.
Thanks Willz - in real life those yellow coats are hard to miss!
ReplyDeleteNeil
That is a splendid parade, Neil! Now it is time to retire to the Officer's Mess for a fortifying glass of Port. :-)
ReplyDeleteRegards, Chris.
Thanks Chris. If you look carefully at the fourth picture, you will see the Landgraf Weinsberg (central figure) didn't wait for the officer's mess and has started early......☺
